yao-ming How tall is Yao Ming? This man mountain from China stands 7’6” and is basketball player currently signed with the Houston Rockets. He is currently the tallest player in the league and plays center for the team.

Born in Shanghai, Yao had played with the Shanghai Sharks in the Chinese Basketball Association and entered the NBA Draft in 2002. Since then, he has been named to start the All Star team for the West in all of his seven seasons, but he is often injured and his team has failed to advance past the second round in all of his seasons.

Yao is China’s most well known athlete, as he was the primary athlete in focus when China hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 2008. He has been contracted to be the spokesperson for many companies, from Nike to Coke and to credit cards, making him the richest celebrity in China for five straight years. Yao has also been subject of a documentary film about his travails in his rookie year aptly entitled “Year of the Yao” and he has co-wrote his autobiography with NBA analyst Rich Bucher titled “Yao: A Life in Two Worlds”.
